Echinops or Globe Thistle makes striking blue globular flowers in a luminous shade of blue. The many tiny flowrets that comprise a flower head are often clustered with bees. Despite their exotic appearance, they aren't hard to grow, requiring only sufficient space and lots of sun to thrive.

Height: 3-5 feet Soil: ordinary, well drained
Starting: Start from seed in spring, or by division in the Fall. Blooms the second year. Cuttings may also be rooted in a cold frame. Growing: Once established, echinops have no special requirements.
Etymology: echinops = from Greek echinos for 'hedgehog' or 'sea urchin'
