The Plant Guide

Cosmos
  Cosmos bipinnatus
Back to Index

Cosmos is almost ubiquitous in many my neighborhood. In fact, one of my neighbors planted their entire front yard in it a couple years back. I'm not sure I'd go that far, but if you have a sunny, roomy piece of yard, or an ugly fence to camouflage, cosmos may fit the bill. Cosmos grow to be about 3-4 feet tall, and come in pink and white, as well as the brighter oranges and yellows of the 'Bright Lights' variety. Traditional cosmos is easy care, and its only hazard seems to be leaf fungus which can attack when the weather is very wet for an extended period of time. Otherwise, they carry on admirably, and bloom from midsummer on.
