For People Who Love To Garden

June In Bloom: Torenia

The torenia were just getting started on this June afternoon. Seen growing en masse, the are striking—viewed up close, they're a bit disturbing, looking a bit like shark's maws. Having said that, Peg gave me a couple of these, and they're still going, having slowly taken over the entire planter over the course of the summer. They flower constantly. Tip: They need water, and prefer cooler temps and part shade. Too much hot sun can cause major wilt. [Hull, MA - June 1, 2000]
