| Clean up garden debris... |
It's garden cleanup time. Clean out your languishing annuals, cut back the dead stalks of perennials, and clear out debris.
- Evaluate your garden. What worked and what didn't? Make notes for next year, and while you're at it, sketch out a plan of your garden and note where your perennials are so you won't dig them up next spring.
- Buy or harvest apples and make pies, apple butter, and apple sauce. don't forget some cider!
- Harvest late potatoes, onions, and any other remaining root crops for winter.
- If you have bags and bundles of summer herbs that you collected and dried, now might be a good time to put them into glass containers or plastic bags, with labels of course.
- Go out to the pumpkin patch and pick yourself a pumpkin.
- Build or buy yourself a good plant stand for all those houseplants you need to bring inside.
- Make a wreath for your door out of dried flowers, seed pods, twigs, and dried berries.
- Harvest the last of the green tomatoes if you haven't already. Better you should get them than Jack Frost.
- Go for a walk in the woods and enjoy the bright fall colors.
