For People Who Love To Garden

Tips by the Month

Tips for February

  1. Spring is coming!
Be glad it's snowing. The snow is a great mulch for perennials.
  2. Order your seeds for early spring starting.
  3. Start getting your seed starting kits together. You're going to need lights, heating pads, seed starter medium, fertilizer tea, cloches...
  4. Make your sweetie a valentine.
  5. Plan your herb garden, mixed border, vegetable plot...
  6. Go get all those seed pods you've been saving and put them in labeled envelopes.
  7. Take out all your seeds and read the seed packets again. You might have missed something the first five or six times you read them.
  8. See how your houseplants are doing. Check on the dormant shrubs in the basement.
  9. Visit a greenhouse or arboretum.
  10. Drink a nice cup of homegrown herbal tea. Mint, chamomile, rose hips, hyssop, and lemon verbena are all nice.
