| April seeds bring April seedlings. |
You can probably start most midseason outdoor seeds, like calendula, godetia, chamomile and many others, sometime this month. Check for date of last frost in your area.
- Don't leave your seedlings languishing on the windowsill. Give them a feeding of mild fertilizer and as weather permits, allow to sit outside for a few hours a day. They'll love you for it.
- Prepare your beds. Turn the soil, improve the soil, improve drainage. Whatever little soil-based project you've had in mind, now is the time.
- Deal with perennials which are coming up now. Some can be successfully divided or moved in the Spring.
- Notice the weeds coming up in the neighborhood. Weeds are our friends. Many of them were used for food or medicine in the past. Get to know them.
- Try not to jump the gun, but you can probably transplant most of your indoor seedlings to the garden around the time of average last frost for your area.
- Buy a few flats of pansies or other early blooming flower to satisfy your need for color.
- Take a walk in the neighborhood and enjoy the prospect of Spring.
- Seed some early blooming flowers such as chamomile or malcolmia for a fragrant show in late May. Both make good bulb cover, and you can harvest your chamomile for tea.
- Reintroduce overwintering houseplants to the great outdoors.
