Garden Stone: Creative Landscaping With Plants and Stone
by Barbara Pleasant, Photos by Dency Crane (Storey Books]

Curse you, Storey Books!

Every time I read one of their fabulous garden books I end up wanting to dig up the back yard, install a pond, build fountains... and now this! Stonework! Arrrgh!

The thing that is so annoying is that this book has gorgeous photos, clear explanations, and practical information for building stone paths, borders, stairways, walls and other garden accessories. There are brilliant suggestions for choosing, moving, and cutting stone plus information on plants that grow well in rocky terrain. Within moments I was ready to order a truckload of stone and create a backyard masterpiece.

Garden Stone has good advice for working with stone, such as suggestions for lifting and positioning to maximize efficiency while working with heavy objects. You'll learn what it takes to make a great stone path, and how to set stones so they don't wiggle and wobble. You'll even learn some lingo so you can tell your rocks from your stones and get exactly what you're looking for for your pond, steps, benches, paths, and patios.

Stones add a special touch to a garden, and this book is, unfortunately, all you need to get yourself going down the (stone) path.
